What are PRS Core Series guitars and basses? They are professional instruments through and through, ones that are meant to be played and loved. Made in Maryland, every Core Series instrument is built to the exact standards that have defined Paul Reed Smith’s tenure as a builder and designer. That means hand-selected woods, pickups and playing controls of the highest quality, a diverse collection of body finish colors, and a rigorous construction process guided by an attention to detail and the strictest of standards. A PRS Core Series guitar wouldn’t be complete without fine finishing elements and wonderful appointments – the trademark ‘bird’ fretboard inlay and stylized headstock are just a couple of the notable visuals you can expect.
Back in 1985, Paul Reed Smith unveiled the very first PRS Custom 24 at Winter NAMM show, and the spirit of that very instrument continues to this day. At AMS we carry the Custom 24 plus a number of modified variants to account for the preferences of different players. If you’re looking for the same type of guitar with a slightly smaller scale with fewer frets, then a PRS Custom 22 is one that checks all of the boxes.
As president of Gibson from 1950-1966 during the vintage ‘Golden Age of Guitars’, Ted McCarty oversaw and contributed to some of the most legendary guitar designs in the history of the instrument – most notably the Les Paul and the ES-335. McCarty was a mentor, collaborator, and consultant to Paul Reed Smith and the two struck up a deep friendship. The PRS McCarty lineup is a tribute – and these instruments are packed with both the soul of a vintage guitar and the style of an innovative, forward-thinking one. PRS made sure to incorporate special pickups and a diverse control configuration – and like the Custom 24, offers McCarty models with several upgrade options.
When PRS style and form factor meets the tonal flavor of hollow and semi-hollow instruments, you know you’re in for something special. AMS carries versatile PRS Hollowbody models that will expand the possibilities when it comes to your music and its sound.
