In the exciting world of electric guitars, the 6-String solidbody electric is the instrument that is most talked about and is used most often. The design is straightforward yet extremely detailed and personalized by both brand and maker. The guitar body is carved out of a solid piece of wood - Alder, Ash, and Mahogany are the most regularly used, but there are a wide range of other woods available for different looks and levels of resonance. The guitar neck can either be carved out of the same piece of wood as the body (a one-piece instrument known as ‘neck-thru’) or made as a separate piece that is then attached to the neck (commonly known as a ‘bolt-on’ neck). The bridge is secured at the base of the body, allowing the strings to be set in place and positioned evenly up the neck and through the tuning machines.

The guitar pickups and their matching electronics, built directly into the body, are the true voice of the solidbody guitar. Pickups are magnets wrapped with wiring that, when paired with the plucking or strumming of the nearby strings, induces an electric current that is then transferred from guitar to an amplifier and speaker with a 1/4” instrument cable. Each guitar uses different pickup configurations to influence the tonal flavor and the engineers from different brands incorporate their pickup designs to bring you sonic choices that go hand-in-hand with the type of music you want to play!

AMS has a huge and far-reaching collection of these electric guitars at the best prices. If you’re looking for a tried-and-true instrument from Fender (such as a popular, prolific Fender Stratocaster or Fender Telecaster) or Gibson (such as an iconic Gibson Les Paul or Gibson SG) - we have you covered. Do you want something different? Something fresh? Something from one of the many passionate brands out there? We have you covered there too!

If you’re thinking of an elite guitar that goes in a different direction than the more straightforward stock offerings, be sure to check out PRS and Ernie Ball Music Man. These are companies that are driven by expertise and a strict code that involves hand-selected woods of the highest quality, custom pickups and electronics, and a collaborative mindset with musicians and engineers to cover the needs of today’s players. Also, many of the most experienced and talented builders in the guitar business can be found at the Gibson Custom Shop. Their artisans are free to experiment with new designs while mixing-and-matching specialized hardware and electronic components to create stunning works of art that will wow the crowd. AMS has striking high-resolution photos of every serialized guitar we sell, so you’ll be able to choose the exact instrument that speaks to you!
