The Gibson J-45 has been the cornerstone of Gibson’s round-shoulder acoustic lineup since its introduction in 1942. It is the most popular acoustic guitar model ever produced by the company. Renowned for its no-nonsense practicality and wide acceptance across genres, it quickly earned the nickname, “The Workhorse.”
Now, Epiphone is proud to introduce the J-45 Standard EC as part of the Inspired by Gibson Collection. This new model offers all the tone and utility of the J-45 Standard while adding the advantages of a cutaway body for even greater expressiveness and improved upper-fret accessibility.
The J-45 Standard EC features a round-shoulder cutaway body with solid mahogany back and sides, paired with a solid spruce top—the classic tonewood combination at the heart of the J-45 design. Built entirely from solid tonewoods, its sound will continue to improve as the guitar ages.
The one-piece mahogany neck is glued to the body with a tapered dovetail joint. It has a comfortable Rounded C profile and is topped with a rosewood fretboard featuring 20 frets and mother-of-pearl dot inlays. The headstock sports the popular 60s-style Kalamazoo shape, inlaid with the Epiphone logo in mother-of-pearl, and fitted with a bone nut and smooth Grover Rotomatic tuners for rock-solid tuning stability.
For stage and studio use, the J-45 Standard EC comes factory-equipped with a Fishman S-Core under-saddle piezo pickup and Presys II preamp system. The preamp includes side-mounted controls for volume, bass, treble, and a phase switch, along with a convenient built-in electronic tuner. A combination battery box and endpin output jack make battery replacement fast and easy.
A premium gig bag is included to keep your J-45 Standard EC safe and to make transport simple—whether you’re heading to a rehearsal, a recording session, or a live performance. Please note: the electronics require a 9-volt battery, which is not included.
